Black Sandals Will Never Be Out, But This Trending Colour Is Officially In for 2025.

By Swedan Margen

Black Sandals Will Never Be Out, But This Trending Colour Is Officially In for 2025.

My flat-footwear evolution is truly something that should be studied. Over the past few years, I’ve transformed from someone who outright refused to let sunlight touch her toes to the first one to brave the outdoors on a 13-degree day. My latest favourite style? Red sandals. Now, I know what you’re thinking: red, really, Imani? Well, trust me, because I promise that a red sandal offers versatility you never knew you needed in your summer wardrobe. Paired with neutrals, it offers the perfect pop of colour, and when worn with the brights and bolds in my summer capsule wardrobe, it elevates the outfit tenfold, even if it’s just a subtle transformation.

If you regularly read our content or are scrolling socials daily like me, you’re probably still not over red. We all remember Hailey Bieber in that strapless Ermanno Scervino minidress and Maison Ernest peep-toe heels when she was promoting Rhode’s Strawberry Glaze Peptide Lip Tint alongside a tray of strawberry-glazed Krispy Kremes.

Spotted at key names including Balmain, Bottega Veneta and Victoria Beckham during the spring/summer 2025 shows, there’s no denying that red sandals are a trend to know about this year. A standout detail across collections, they were often paired with minimalist tailoring and bold, sculptural silhouettes. And the data reflects what I’ve been seeing in real life. According to Google Insights, searches for “red heeled sandals” are trending by more than 170% right now, and it’s not just on the runways or in the algorithms—it feels like I can’t walk down the street without spotting a pair. Whether worn as a flash of colour against neutrals or clashing confidently against other brights, red sandals are proving to be more than a passing trend; they’re a shoe that will last for years to come thanks to their outfit-boosting abilities.

Why Are We Loving Red Sandals?

It may feel like everyone suddenly loves red sandals, but image consultant Francesca Cairns notes that red sandals are more than just a pop of colour. “They’re a mood-booster,” she says. “Red gives off instant confidence and a sense of daring. Even if the rest of your outfit is pared-back, a red sandal brings it to life. Associated with energy, passion and self-assurance, red naturally draws the eye, shifting the way you carry yourself. “Wearing red can feel bold, and that translates into confidence,” Cairns adds. “It says, ‘I’m here and I’m not afraid to be seen.’ That energy affects everything—your posture, your mindset, even how others respond to you.”

How to Wear Red Sandals for Your Colour Season

If you're into the idea of colour theory, you're in for a treat. With the help of Cairns, I've pulled together a colour analysis guide to help you discover which red hue will work best for you.

Influencer Barbra wears linen shorts, stripped jumper a brown blazer and holds a wicker bag.

Style Notes: Sandal trends are often fairly leisurely, and the rope sandal is the latest to capture the attention of fashion people thanks to its laid-back ease and playful flair. The perfect combination of comfort and style, rope sandals strike a balance between wearability and sophistication. Their tactile appeal and ability to elevate even the simplest summer looks make them a smart investment, especially if you're looking to tap into the red sandal trend with a more relaxed edge. Take style tips from Barbra (pictured above) and pair with long shorts, a casual tee and a draped scarf for a polished look.

MIU MIU

Riviere cord and leather sandals

A fashion-person favourite, these are the kind of investment that earns its keep, season after season. I’d style them with an oversized shirt, black capris and a red claw clip for an easy, off-duty nod to ‘90s cool.

Bungee Strappy Sandals

Free People

Bungee Strappy Sandals

I adore the criss-cross style of this pair, which adds just the right amount of detail without overwhelming the sandal. They would work well with slouchy tailoring as well as something more typically “feminine” like a slip dress or linen co-ord.

Boat Sandal With Nautical Color Ropes

BIMBA Y LOLA

Boat Sandal With Nautical Color Ropes

The contrast of the white rope against the red feels unexpectedly fresh for this style of sandal. The addition of a slight platform offers just the right lift, combining height with all-day comfort.

BALTINI, Flowze Sandals

I love the mix of chocolate brown and red on this thong-style silhouette. The gold detailing on the ankle strap adds a touch of chic to an otherwise laid-back design; it feels like an elevated twist that doesn’t try too hard. I’d pair them with a linen trouser and shirt set for a relaxed edge that still feels put-together.

This looks far more luxe than its affordable price tag suggests, which is ideal if you're not looking to splurge on the trend.

Tory Burgundy Sandals

2. Jelly sandals

Seo writer Ava wears Ancient Greek Sandals a white jeans a white shirt and dark red shirt.

Style Notes: 2025’s fashion cycle has delivered its fair share of surprises, but jelly shoes might be the most unexpected of all. This throwback Y2K style has been reimagined in a pared-back silhouette that, dare I say it, looks quite chic. I know, that isn’t a sentence I ever thought I’d write either. But here we are, with jelly shoes enjoying a revival that feels fun yet considered. If you're drawn to their nostalgic charm, take notes from Ava Gilchrist (pictured above) and style them with an all-white outfit for a cheerful pop of colour that still feels modern.

Saionara Jelly

Seo writer Ava Gilichrest has tried these Ancient Greek Sandals and states "As an Australian, loving flip-flops is pretty much etched into my DNA. The Ancient Greek Sandals jelly style has been on my radar for over a year, but this summer was the time I finally pulled the trigger on getting them. They've easily become my most worn shoe, pairing back with everything from floaty drop-waist dresses to elevating simple white denim and white t-shirt outfits. The fit is true to size, and the soft sole is quite comfortable for clocking in upwards of 10,000 steps. The rubber strap can be a little irritating at first, so I would break them in slowly and surely or by wearing band aids. Either way, I stand by the fact they're the perfect accompaniment for any outfit in any setting—be it city or coast. There's just something so alluring about that pop of red..."

FIORUCCI, Jelly Kitten Heels Red

FIORUCCI

Jelly Kitten Heels Red

For the jelly-shoe enthusiasts, this fisherman-inspired kitten heel is a refreshing twist on the red-shoe trend. Since the shoes are already the moment, I’d keep the rest of the look clean—think a monochromatic base with a black slip skirt, a black baby tee and a red shoulder bag to tie it all together.

4. Strappy Sandals

Influencer Deva wears a grey skirt, a white t-shirt and carried the grey The Row Magreux

From barely-there silhouettes with thin, elegant straps to chunkier styles that offer more foot security and presence, there's a version for every mood and occasion. Red might feel bold, but it’s surprisingly wearable when styled right. This season, it's not about coordinating, it’s about contrast, so let your sandals be the pop in an otherwise relaxed look. I’m taking cues from Deva Pollon and keeping it casual with a low-waisted jersey maxi skirt and a white baby tee. The simplicity of the outfit allows the red to shine without screaming for attention. Add a tote and a slicked-back bun, and you’ve nailed understated cool.
