Tributes to Army veteran killed in bus crash

Tributes have been paid to an Army veteran, killed in a crash with a bus, who "leaves behind a legacy of bravery".

Simon Miller, 35, from Sunderland, died when his motorbike collided with the rear passenger side of a bus at about 13:30 GMT on Saturday on the A1290 Downhill Lane roundabout near West Boldon, South Tyneside.

Paying tribute to him, his family said Mr Miller had served in The Rifles regiment, completing a tour of duty in Afghanistan.

They said he "cherished life's simple joys", such as gaming and spending time with his girlfriend and loved ones.

"Simon leaves behind a legacy of bravery, love, and laughter," the family statement read.

"His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him."

Northumbria Police said the cause of the crash was "yet to be established" and asked witnesses to contact the force.
