Sleep Next to Me Where No One Does

By Kim Browne

Sleep Next to Me Where No One Does

Now that I sleep across the yard

no longer waiting for you to switch

off the light

I light a candle

to see where I’m going

prop open the skylight with a pole

All the olive blossoms piled on the glass

float into the room

and before I can bend to sweep

them away

I float up

like a second moon

watching the candle and

its reflection sway in all directions

two trikes on the gravel

tilting nowhere

sprinklers turning on

the whole yard

overflowing
